Abstract

1470877 Reforming ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 4 Sept 1974 [6 Sept 1973] 38683/74 Heading C5E A hydrocarbon feed is reformed in the presence of molecular hydrogen in at least one naphthene dehydrogenation zone and then in at least one paraffin dehydrocyclization zone; the naphthene dehydrogenation zone contains a catalyst comprising rhenium and a platinum group metal on alumina; the paraffin dehydrocyclization zone contains a catalyst comprising iridium together with platinum and/or palladium on alumina; and the average mol ratio of hydrogen to hydrocarbon boiling above 50‹F. entering the paraffin dehydrocyclization zone is in the range from 7 : 1 to 30 : 1. The alumina support of the catalysts can be gamma alumina derived from a hydrous alumina predominating in alumina monohydrate and/or amorphous hydrous alumina; the catalysts can contain 0À1- 1À5 wt. per cent of chloride. The naphthene dehydrogenation can be carried out at an inlet temperature of 820-920‹ F. and the paraffin dehydrocyclization can be carried out at an inlet temperature of 900-1000‹ F.
