Abstract

1470306 Lubricant compositions GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 2 May 1974 [7 June 1973] 19356/74 Heading C5F [Also in Division C3] A composition for reducing the friction between an expanding fluid pressure core and the internal surface of a green tyre during vulcanization comprises (a) a high molecular weight poly(diorganosiloxane) fluid, (b) a high molecular weight alkylene oxide polyol, (c) a particulate solid for providing air-bleed channels, (d) water, (e) a thickening agent and (f) an emulsifying agent. The components can be used in the amounts of 2-20 wt. per cent of (a), 2-20% of (b), 20-55% of (c), 0À05-5% of (e), 0À05- 5% of (f) and the balance of water. Component (a) suitably has a viscosity of 25-100,000 cps. at 25‹ C. and comprises dimethylsiloxane or dimethylsiloxane and diphenylsiloxane and can have polyether units. Component (b) is suitably a polymer of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide having a molecular weight of at least 1000. Component (c) can be mica and/or talc of 160-600 U.S. mesh. Component (e) is suitably a carboxylated vinyl polymer or bentonite gelled with methanol. Component (f) can be sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate or sorbitan sesquioleate. The composition can also contain sodium nitrite as a corrosion inhibitor and oleic acid. Various polymers suitable as component (a) are listed.
