Abstract
1470168 Aftertreatment of photographs KODAK Ltd 15 Aug 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 38974/73 Heading C3G [Also in Division G2] A method of treating a photographic imagebearing hydrophilic colloid layer comprises applying to the layer an aqueous solution of a polymerizable monomer and subsequently polymerizing the monomer in the layer. The method is useful in increasing the resolution and sharpness of the images, e.g. of Lippmann emulsions used in holography to increase the thickness of the image layer to reduce noise to alter the image profile and to render the hologram stable and insensitive to light. The layer to be treated may be either exposed and processed (and in the wet or dried state) or exposed but unprocessed. Suitable monomers are N-vinyl-2- pyrrolidone, acrylic acid and acrylamide. When the colloid is gelatin the aqueous solution may also contain a gelatin hydrogen bond breaking agent, e.g. urea. Polymerization can be effected in the presence of u.v. light or using chemical polymerization agents applied by washing or fuming.
