Abstract
1470055 Acoustic wave devices; oscillators M F LEWIS and R A MACQUEEN 29 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 20418/73 Headings H3U and H3F An acoustic wave device, as disclosed in Specification 1,451,326, has an input transducer 51 and output transducers 55, 57 which are longitudinally spaced so as to receive acoustic waves which are out of phase, means being provided to combine the outputs in variable proportions. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, the combining means is a potentiometer 59 whose slider 61 is connected via amplifier 50 to the input transducer 51 to form an oscillator. The transducers 55, 57 are separated by #/4, where # is the average wavelength of surface waves emitted by transducer 51, and the frequency of the oscillator is varied by adjusting the potentiometer slider 61. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the outputs of transducers 55, 57 are fed to respective variable-gain amplifiers 63, 65 whose outputs are both connected to amplifier 50. The frequency of the oscillator is varied by varying the gains of amplifiers 63, 65 relative to one another. Rapid electrical control of the gains may be used to effect frequency modulation.
