Abstract
1469767 Uniform copolymers of an unsaturated ketone and (meth)acryionitrile IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 June 1974 [26 July 1973] 35647/73 Heading C3P A uniform copolymer contains 66 to 95% molar of acrylonitrite units, or 50 to 99À9% molar of methacrylonitrile units, and 0À1 to 25% molar of uniformly distributed units of an ethylenically unsaturated ketone having the formula where R is an alkyl, alkaryl, alkenyl or aryl group containing 1 to 9 carbon atoms and R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and 0 to 49À5% molar of units derived from at least one aromatic olefine, the quantities being chosen to total 100 mole per cent. At least the faster reacting monomer is fed into the reaction medium throughout the course of the polymerization, styrene and methyl vinyl ketone being added in the example to an aqueous medium containing acrylonitrile and the said two monomers. The copolymer may be the susperstrate of a graft polymer having a rubber substrate. Blends of the copolymer with such a graft polymer, or another compatible graft polymer, may be formed.
