Abstract

1469483 Video disc playback TED BILDPLATTEN AG AEG TELEFUNKEN TELDEC 11 April 1974 [11 April 1973 30 Aug 1973 20 Sept 1973 1 Dec 1973 12 Dec 1973] 16276/76 Heading G5R In a pressure scanning arrangement for playing back video signals stored in grooves in a disc record carrier 1 the scanning element can be periodically displaced transversely to the groove direction to play back still, speeded up or slow motion pictures. The scanning element includes a scanner 10 and mechanical-electrical converter 11 elastically mounted by an arm 12 on a part 6a of a carriage 6 which drives and guides the scanner along a record radius. The element also includes an armature 13 which reacts with a magnetic pulse generating arrangement including iron core 14 with coils 16, 17 and iron core 15 with coils 18, 19 to move the element transversely of the record groove in one or other direction. The cores are angled such that each pulse includes a component for lifting the stylus from the groove and a further component for the transverse shifting. Circuits are provided for ensuring that the pulses are timed to occur during a non-picture interval, e.g. during playback of the vertical sync. pulse and for controlling the pulse amplitude, which determines the number of grooves jumped, and if necessary the speed of the carriage 6 to produce the various effects, e.g. displacing the element one groove backwards each record revolution for still picture production.
