Abstract

1469042 Recovering uranium KURARAY CO Ltd 17 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 6612/75 Heading C1A [Also in Division C3] Uranium is recovered from sea water and like sources by contact with a uranium collector comprising the reaction product of (a) a polymer containing an acidic or nitro radical and also an alcoholic hydroxyl radical, and which has been prepared by saponifying or hydrolysing a copolymer of a monomer containing an acidic or nitro group with a monomer containing a function group which yields an alcoholic hydroxyl group on saponification or hydrolysis, and (b) a titanium compound. Numerous polymers are suggested, and the titanium compound may be alpha-titanic acid, a titanic acid ester or titanium sulphate. In examples, the uranium collectors prepared and used are derived by reacting alpha-titanic acid with vinyl alcohol/maleic acid copolymer.
