Brushes; brush-holders; collecting-rings. - A brush-holder for dynamo-electric machines comprises a brush-supporting arm 13, Fig. 1, pivotally supported intermediate its ends to one end of a lever 11 which is pivoted at its other end to a stationary bracket, and a spring 15 fixed at one end and connected at the other end to an intermediate part of the lever 11. Two brush-holders are mounted in parallel and the spring 15 is connected to a rod 17 loosely bearing in the two levers 11 so as to permit of relative angular movement between the levers. In a modification, the arm 13 and lever 11 are connected together by a ball-and-socket joint 12<x>, Fig. 6, so as to permit of angular movement of the arm 13 in all directions, the movement in two direcions being limited by the sides 14<x> of the slot formed in the arm 13. The contact surfaces of the brushes and collecting-rings are given the shape shown in Fig. 5 so as to prevent the brushes coming in contact with the insulating side parts 18<x> of the collecting rings.
