Abstract

1467794 Benzodioxoles NICHOLAS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 27 Nov 1975 48710/75 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R, R 1 = H, C 1-4 alkyl; R<SP>3</SP> = phenolic protecting group; R<SP>4</SP>=alkyl) are prepared by reacting an alkyl 2-protected hydroxy-5-haloacetylbenzoate with the appropriate 3,4-methylenedioxyphenethylamine, followed by reduction. If R<SP>4</SP> is a methyl group it may be replaced by a branched alkyl group by effecting the reduction in the presence of the corresponding alcohol. The alkoxycarbonyl group in the product may be reduced to a hydroxymethyl group, followed by removal of the protecting group, salt formation and/or isomer separation.
