Abstract
1467709 Endoscopes RICHARD WOLF GmbH 6 Nov 1974 [6 Nov 1973] 48097/74 Heading A5R An endoscope for the cutting of strictures in the urinary passage whereby an outer barrel 1 is first inserted and moved up to the stricture, within the outer barrel are an inner examination barrel and optical system comprising a light conductor 11 connected to an eyepiece 12 and light source 13 to provide viewing of the stricture, a urethral catheter 17 is then slid in through guide tube 15 along the urinary passage to the bladder, the inner examination barrel and optical system are then withdrawn and replaced by an operating barrel, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), which has a plug at 'its distal end having a knife therein, a short guide tube and a bore for the light conductor. The short guide tube is threaded onto the urethral catheter and the operating barrel and light conductor are guided to the stricture which is cut. They are then moved to the bladder, when the urethral catheter is withdrawn and replaced by a balloon implant catheter which is inflated in the bladder to retain it and provide a passage for the urine. The endoscope is then withdrawn and disengaged from the catheter by means of a slit 3 which runs uninterrupted along its length.
