Abstract

1467298 Suture bridges BIO-MEDICUS Inc 5 June 1974 24885/74 Heading A5R A suture bridge 53 for use with a suture to close a wound, has end portions 52 for engaging the patient's skin, cantilever suture support members 56 projecting from the end portions 52 on the side opposite that intended to be placed against the skin, each end portion 52 having a slot 55 for passage of a suture to the respective support member 56 without touching the bridge. Each end portion may have several longitudinal projections, one projection being bent to form a support member 56, the others defining a slot 55. The bridge and the support members are made of resiliently flexible material which may be porous or microporous and which may be capable of assimulation by the body. Each support member 56 has a slit 57 in which the ends of a suture may be frictionally secured or through which the suture ends may be passed for tying together over the bridge.
