Abstract
1466769 Resilient mountings; machine supports MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd and TOYO BOSEKI KK 24 Sept 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 41519/74 Headings F2S and F2X [Also in Divisions E1 and H5] In an alignment pad which is otherwise similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,455,420, the or each thermoplastic resin sheet is made from a block copolymer comprising from 99 to 15% by weight of a crystalline polymer component and 1 to 85% by weight of an amorphous polymer component, the crystalline component being an aromatic polyester, a polylactone or an aromatic polyether having a melting point greater than 150 C. and the amorphous polymer component having a melting point of less than 80 C. and a molecular weight of more than 400. The block copolymer has a maximum fluidizing temperature of not less than 80 C., a brittle point temperature of below - 40 C., a compressive stress of from 5 to 350 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, a compressive modulus of from 300 to 7000 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, an impact strength of not less than 10 kg. cm./cm. and a D-type Shore hardness of not less than 20. Where the crystalline component is an aromatic polyester it has an acidic component in the form of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid residue and a glycol component which is at least one of the group comprising an aliphatic diol residue having 3 to 10 carbon atoms an aromatic diol residue, or an alicyclic diol residue. Lists of suitable crystalline and amorphous polymers and suitable block polymers are given in the Specification. The alignment pad in use is electrically heated to cause it to soften and compress under an applied load until a component, e.g. a rail or a machine, is properly aligned or levelled. Rubber pads may be incorporated in the rail track installation to damp out vibration. Ultra-violet ray absorbents, hydrolysis preventing agents, thermal oxidation prevent agents or fillers, e.g. carbon black, silica, calcium carbonate, glass fibre or asbestos may be added to the block copolymer. A non-woven polyester sheet may enclose the alignment pad to reduce thermal losses during the aligning operation. The block polymer may be selected to provide a hard relatively rigid pad or to provide a pad having a relatively high vibration damping property.
