Abstract

1466719 Change-speed control; controlling clutches; valves DAIKIN SEISAKUSHO KK 27 June 1974 28533/74 Headings F2D F2L and F2V Rotary movement of a valve member 22 selects a forward or a reverse hydraulically operated clutch of a vehicle, e.g. an industrial lift truck, and axial movement effected by the vehicle brake control governs both the supply or exhaust of operating fluid to or from the selected clutch and the magnitude of the pressure supplied to effect graduated clutch engagement. As shown, the valve member is positioned by a rotary sleeve 25, connected by a lever 12 to a driver's control, to select the forward clutch which is connected to a port 34, but the latter is connected by a channel 39 with exhaust 36 because a shaft 19, slidable in the sleeve 25 and connected to the valve member by a pin 29, is in its leftmost position to which it is urged when the vehicle brakes are applied. As the brakes are released the shaft is moved to the right and takes with it the valve member, which is slidable on a key 24, so that a land 42<SP>1</SP> moves past the port 34 to admit pressure fluid from a channel 38 to the port 34, the channel 38 being connected by an annular passage 42 and a channel 37 with an inlet port 33 from a pump 9. At the same time a spring 45, which opposes the loading spring 44 of a pressure regulating valve 46, is relaxed so that the pressure in a chamber 48, and thereby the pressure at the port 33, is increased. Fluid discharged through an outlet port 52 of the valve 46 is conducted to an hydraulic torque converter in the drive line between the vehicle engine and the forward and reverse clutches. To select reverse the sleeve 25 is turned to align the channels 38, 39 with another port (35, Fig. 3, not shown) connected to the reverse clutch.
