Abstract

1466651 Clutch control DAIKIN SEISAKUSHO KK 7 Jan 1975 520/75 Heading F2L Automatic adjustment of a motor vehicle clutch control linkage including a master and slave cylinder assembly (1 ... 5), Fig. 1 (not shown) to compensate for wear in a friction clutch (14) is effected by a lock mechanism 54 which permits a push rod 12 between a slave piston 59 and a release fork 16 to move freely during clutch engagement and thereafter connects the rod 12 to a sleeve 42 which limits further axial movement of the rod 12 to that necessary to provide a predetermined clearance C1 at the clutch release bearing (21). To disengage the clutch the rod 12 and sleeve 42 are moved together by the slave piston 59 through a predetermined distance C2 to take up the clearance C1. Thereafter the increased pressure required to disengage the clutch moves a locking plunger 51 right against the bias of a spring 56 and thus disengage the lock mechanism 54 to release the rod 12 from the sleeve 42. The rod 12 then moves alone to effect clutch disengagement. To re-engage the clutch the rod 12 moves alone until the clutch is fully engaged. Thereafter the spring 56 re-engages the lock 54 and the rod 12 together with the sleeve 42 are moved by a return spring 13 through the predetermined distance C2 to provide the clearance C1. The predetermined axial moment C2 is determined by a shoulder 44 on the sleeve 42 abutting a plate 36 on the end of the slave cylinder 1. When the maximum permitted wear in the clutch has occurred the piston 59 abuts the end of the slave cylinder 1 and the sleeve 42 abuts a circlip 62 on the rod 12. The amount of wear which has occurred may be observed by inspecting the clearance C4<SP>1</SP> between the end of the sleeve 42 and circlip 62. The circlip 62 may be replaced by a switch which actuates a warning signal when the maximum permitted wear has occurred.
