Abstract

1466627 Tyre testing machines REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 7 June 1974 [8 June 1973] 25428/74 Heading B7C [Also in Divisions B3 and C7] A device including means for temporarily locking together first and second components of the device, the first component 3 being movable and the second (not shown) fixed comprises a receptacle 1 which is fixed to the second component and contains a eutectic alloy and means 5 for successively heating and cooling the wall of the receptacle, the first component being mounted so that a portion thereof is immersed (or locked) in the alloy. The component 3 may be pivotable about axis 3a and may have holes 4 for improving the locking thereto of the eutectic alloy. The Specification includes a claim directed to a process for temporarily locking together relatively pivotable components. Reference is made to the use of the invention in the tyre testing device disclosed in Specification No. 1,466,132 in which inputs to a wheel hub control member can be "frozen" by locking one member of a signal transmitting linkage against movement relative to a frame. The alloy used may comprise: Sn 8-3%; Bi 44À7%; Pb 22À6%; Cd 5À3% and In 19À1% having a liquidus/ solidus of 47‹ C., the heating/cooling fluid in coil 5 being, e.g. water.
