Abstract

1465721 Protective systems MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 15 May 1974 [19 May 1973] 21589/74 Heading H2K A core balance ground fault protective system has the secondary of the core balance transformer 20 arranged to control a semi-conductor switching device such as a thyristor 32 which when mode conducting effects tripping of a circuit interrupter 18 and the circuit between the transformer secondary and thyristor includes a resistor 52, a capacitor 58 serially connected to the resistor 52 and a constant voltage element such as a Zener diode 54 connected across the resistor 52 and having a resistance much lower than the resistor so that when the transformer 20 has an output less than a first predetermined value current passes through the resistor 52 to gradually increase the potential on the capacitor to a second predetermined value at which the thyristor is made conducting and when the transformer output exceeds said first predetermined value current passes through the diode 54 to substantially increase the potential on the capacitor to the value at which the thyristor is mode conducting. The transformer secondary output is fed to the resistor 52 and diode 54 via an adjusting resistor 22 across a further Zener diode 24 and a series combustion of a temperature compensating resistor 26 and thermistor 28 and the resistor 22 with a capacitor are arranged to absorb the effects of line surges. The tripping of the interrupter 18 is controlled by an electromagnet 34 connected to the thyristor 32 and fed with power from a rectifier bridge 38, 40, 42, 44 connected to a transformer 46 fed from the line conductors 10, 12.
