Abstract

1465613 Fluid-pressure brake systems; lining- wear indicators TELDIX GmbH 30 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 24049/74 Headings F2F and F2E A vehicle brake control apparatus comprises means 21 for sensing the extent of actuation of a brake actuator 19, means 26 for determining the deceleration of the vehicle, and control means 25 for comparing the output signals of the sensing means and determining means and producing a control signal for control of at least one of the brakes 6, 7, 8, 9 so that a predetermined deceleration of the vehicle is associated with a predetermined extent of actuation of the brake actuator. On actuation of pedal 19, a valve 5 is raised to its top position to permit pressurization of wheel cylinders 6a to 9a. If the consequent vehicle deceleration is that called for, valve 5 is moved downwards to the intermediate position where pressure is stabilised. On pedals retraction, valve 5 is lowered to the position shown, where pressure is relieved by line 10 to reservoir 3. In the event of failure of pressure source 1, 2, 4, linked valves 11, 12 are automatically raised to isolate the wheel cylinders therefrom, after which the wheel cylinders may be pressurized by an emergency pressure generator 16, 17 upon sufficient movement of pedal 19. Alternative actuation of valves 11, 12 is by a mechanical connection 34 between valve 12 and a rod 35 forming part of the connection between pedal 19 and generator 16, 17. Modulating valves 13 to 15 are controlled by an anti-skid circuit 29 to which wheel speed signals and front-wheel deceleration signals are fed at 30, 31, respectively, and from which valvecontrol signals are derived at 32. A pendulum 26a and detector 26b form deceleration-determinant 26. Fig. 3 (not shown) depicts logic circuitry for operating valves 13 and 14, or 15, to prevent pressure rise on excessive brake-lining wear of a front or rear wheel. Such operation is suppressed if the anti-lock controller is in operation, or if the brake is actuated many times in a short time (vehicle descending incline), or if both front and rear linings are worn; in the lastmentioned case a warning lamp is energized.
