Abstract

1465069 Mechanical seals BURMAH ENG CO Ltd 24 July 1974 [26 Sept 1973] 45054/73 Heading F2B In an end face seal, the rear face of the rotary sealing member 3 abuts a stationary thrust bearing ring 12 and a slide guiding connection 5 with shaft 1 loses the axial motion of the latter, so that the contact pressure at the sealing interface, produced by spring 10, remains constant. The face materials of member 3 and ring 12 may be dissimilar and the interface is lubricated hydrodynamically by grooves 15 in the member 3 or block 12. Instead of a positive feed 16, member 3 could be formed externally with pumping screwthreads. An additional low pressure cooling circuit 17, 18 may be provided.
