Abstract
1465034 Spray dried alcohol ether sulphate compositions WITCO CHEMICAL CORP 26 June 1975 [4 Nov 1974] 27179/75 Heading C5D A detergent composition in the form of spraydried beads, particularly suitable for use in a bubble bath formulation, comprises (A) an alcohol ether sulphate surfactant especially one of formula wherein R is C 10 to C 18 alkyl, x is 2 to 6 and M is an NH 4 , alkaline earth metal, alkali metal or substituted ammonium cation (B) magnesium sulphate and (C) a buffer, especially a mixture of disodium phosphate and trisodium citrate, to produce a pH of 6 to 8 when the composition is dissolved in water (5% by wt. solution). (A) is present in quantities of 5 to 12% by wt. (B) in quantities of 5 to 15% by wt. and (C) in quantities of 0À25 to 2À5% by wt. Optional additions are (D) 1 to 3% by wt. of a water-soluble starch hydrolysate (E) 8 to 12% by wt. sodium chloride (F) 40 to 60% by wt. sodium or potassium sulphate; (G) other surfactants, e.g. coconut diethanolamide and ethoxylated coconut fatty acid monoethanolamide; (H) perfume, colouring agent, bacteriocide and sequestering agents. The beads are hollow beads produced by spray-drying an aqueous slurry containing 40 to 70% by wt. of the solids of the composition. The slurry is pumped to the spray nozzles under pressures of 250 to 600 p.s.i.g. The inlet temperatures of the air to the spray-drying towers are 700 to 840 F. and the outlet temperatures are 200 to 260 F.
