Abstract

1464950 Naphthalene derivatives E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 23 April 1974 [3 May 1973 (2)] 17745/74 Heading C2C The four isomers of 5-(2-hydroxy-3-tert.- butylaminopropoxy) - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydro - cis- 2,3-naphthalenediol and their salts are prepared by (a) fractional crystallization followed by resolution of the two racemates of (b) resolution of 1 - tert. - butylamino - 3 - (5,8 - dihydro - 1- naphthoxy)-2-propanol and conversion to the diol by the PrÚvost reaction and catalytic hydro - genation, followed by fractional crystallization. The products may be converted to salts. The preparation of the starting material for process (b) is described. These compounds are antiarrhythmic agents, but differ in #-blocking activity. They may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
