Abstract

1463815 Heterocyclic fluoran colour formers CIBA-GEIGY AG 9 Sept 1974 [26 Sept 1973 23 Oct 1973] 45048/73 and 49331/73 Heading C4P [Also in Divisions D2 G2 and C2] Fluoran colour formers have the formula wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , independently, represent H, C 1-12 alkyl, nitro or halogen, or R 2 and R 3 together complete a condensed carbocyclic ring; X 1 and X 2 , independently, represent H, C 1-12 alkyl, alkenyl with at most 12C, alkoxyalkyl with 2-4C, alkoxycarboxyalkyl with 3-9C, cycloalkyl or 5 or 6C, acyl of 1-12C, or opt. subs. benzyl, phenyl or naphthyl; and the ring A represents a heterocyclic radical which opt. includes a further hetero atom as ring member; and the benzene ring B may be substd. by nitro or 1-4 halogen atoms. These colour formers may be used as pressure- or temperature-sensitive recording materials. They give dark green, grey or black, or red or scarlet-red colours in contact with acidic CO- reactant substances such as clay or phenolformaldehyde coated on paper.
