Abstract

1462356 Antibiotic preparations BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 12 July 1974 [10 July 1973] 32833/73 Heading A5B Antibiotic particles comprise (a) 20-70 weight % of a semi-synthetic penicillin or cephalosporin containing a basic group absorbed on (b) 30-80% of pharmaceutially acceptable, benzene-insoluble, acidic cationexchange particles, which particles are resistant to enzmatic degradation, contain not more than 4% cross-linking and have a particle size between 20 and 250 microns. The antibiotic may be the phthalidyl or pivaloxymethyl ester of ampicillin. The resin may be a carboxylated polyacrylate or polymethacrylate or a sulphonylated polystyrene cross-linked with divinyl benzene. The particles may be combined with another beta-lactam antibiotic and an excipient. They may be mixed with water to provide a syrup or made into tablets.
