Abstract
1461946 Reforming naphtha EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 29 March 1974 [12 April 1973] 13974/74 Heading C5E Naphtha having a Watson characterization factor of 11À4 to 12À2 is reformed by contacting with hydrogen and a catalyst comprising alumina, 0À15-0À75 wt.% Pt, 0À15-0À45% Ir and 0À3-2À0% halogen (e.g. chlorine), containing less than 2 atoms sulphur per atom of Pt and Ir and being substantially free of alkali and alkaline earth metal constituents and in which the surface area of the Pt and Ir is at least 200 m<SP>2</SP>/g of Pt and Ir, the contacting being carried out at below 1050 F, 150-600 psig and a hydrogen to naphtha molar ratio (H/O) of 2À5:1 to 8:1 to produce a C 5+ reformate having a Research Octane Number clear (RON) of 94 to 102 for an on-stream period (X months) of 3 to 24 months without incurring a C 5+ liquid yield decline greater than 3À0 volume % relative to the yield obtained 200 hours after initial contact of the feed with fresh or regenerated catalyst at a WHSV within the limits of band A of the Figure wherein the severity factor is determined from the equation: severity factor = -21À89 + 0À22 (RON) -0À35 In (H/O) + 0À50 ln (X).
