Abstract

1461893 Wells &c CAMCO Inc 5 May 1975 [15 May 1974] 18804/75 Heading E1F A well test string 24 for use in a well having a casing 22, a blow-out preventer 20 and a control passageway 30 for controlling the pressure in the well annulus 26, includes a circulating valve 32 for opening and closing communication between the interior and exterior of the string 24; a safety valve 34 controlling fluid flow through the string and having a flapper movable between open and closed positions by piston means, a closed pressure chamber acting on the piston means for biasing the valve to a closed position and a control port 40 exposed to the annulus 26 and acting on the piston means in a direction to open the valve so that the valve is actuated by pressure in the annulus 26 and control passageway 30; and a landing nipple for supporting additional equipment in the string 24. As described the string includes two landing nipples 36, 38 above and below the safety valve 34 and a packer 28. The circulating valve 32 includes a port 33 in the string and a ported inner sleeve which is moved between open and closed positions by wireline. the string may be used for production testing by allowing well production to flow up the string to the rig 16. Other tests may be performed e.g. measuring the pressure in the well by installing a pressure recording instrument in the landing nipple 38.
