If the cross-section is other than triangular, at least one of the corners of the acetabular part adjacent the one face is bevelled. The grooves may be undercut or dovetailed, and may be filled with bone chips from the patient during the operation and prior to implantation of the part to accelerate the growth of tissue into the grooves.
