Abstract

1461109 2-Chloropyridine SEITETSU KAGAKU CO Ltd 6 Dec 1974 [8 Dec 1973 (2)] 52908/74 Heading C2C 2-Chloropyridine is prepared by reacting pyridine with chlorine in a molar ratio of pyridine to chlorine of 0À5-10 : 1 under irradiation of photolytic light particularly of 200-5000 Š and in the gaseous phase in the presence of at least 0À2 moles of steam per mole of pyridine. A halogenated hydrocarbon, e.g. CCl 4 may be added to the reaction system as a diluent.
