Abstract

1460903 Treatment of vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymers BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 6 May 1974 [18 May 1973] 23784/73 Heading C3P A vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer produced by copolymerization of the vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate in a polymerization reaction mixture is treated after completion of the polymerization but before it is isolated from the polymerization reaction mixture with 0À01- 0-6 parts by weight of an anti-static agent per 100 parts by weight of the copolymer. The copolymer preferably contains not more than 20% by weight vinyl acetate, more preferably 5-15%. The copolymer may be prepared by a suspension polymerization process and the anti-static agent is preferably added as an aqueous dispersion. The preferred anti-static agent is a C 12-15 synthetic primary alcohol/ ethylene oxide condensate. The resulting copolymer may then be used for making gramophone records.
