Abstract
1460830 Mixing apparatus BEPEX CORP 24 May 1974 23390/74 Heading B1C Apparatus for mixing foundry sand and a catalyst-curable resin binder comprises a mixer 26, Fig. 1, pivoted at 27 on beam 25 which is in turn pivoted to a vertically adjustable standard 16. Sand is metered from the hopper 10 by screw conveyor 12 and resin and catalyst by pumps 39, 40 all under control of box 34 adjacent handles 33. Iron oxide may also be supplied by screw conveyor 22 driven through electromagnetic clutch 24. Motors 13, 38 are hydraulic and standard 16 may be elevated by a hydraulic ram. The mixer, Fig. 2, has a rotor with helically arranged paddles 83 adjustable for length and pitch and discharging blades 84. The bevel comprises a replaceable liner 51 with end caps 54, 55 and a heating or cooling jacket 95. A variable feed electric motor 67 drives through electromagnetic clutch 70 a pocket wheel 66 for metering sand and a hydraulic pump (as 74) for each liquid component, which is circulated through a container 76 by lines 79, 77; closure of the solenoid valve 80 causes the liquid to be injected into the mixer through nozzle 82. The resin, catalyst and other liquid components may be injected separately or mixed before injection. There are handles 86, and control buttons 87 and control box 88 adjacent thereto. The proportion of binder to sand is controlled by pump adjustment 75. In operation the residence time of the mixture in the mixer is arranged to be 1-5 seconds.
