Abstract

1460195 Electrocoagulation of effluent LENINGRAD INZHENERNO - STROITELNY INST 18 May 1974 22272/74 Heading C1C [Also in Division C7] Effluent from the production or processing of polymers is electrocoagulated between metal electrodes with an electric field of intensity 5-30 v./cm. for a stationary effluent or 70- 80 v./cm. for an effluent velocity up to 3 cm./ min., and a c.d. of 0À0066-0À16 A/cm.<SP>2</SP>. The effluent may be from polystyrene production and contain PVA as stabilizer and inorganic substances, e.g. Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 . Electrodes of Al, Mg or an alloy thereof are used. The effluent may be treated more than once in batch operation, and polyacrylamide may be added between treatments to assist in settling coagulates.
