Abstract

1459871 Reactivating carbon beads KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 5 March 1974 9937/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Spent activated carbon in the form of spherical beads, prepared from a pitch material having a softening point of 50-350‹ C., a carbon content of 80-97% by weight, a hydrogen/ carbon atomic ratio of 0À3-2À5 : 1 and a nitrobenzene-insoluble fraction of less than 60% by weight, is reactivated by drying and devolatilizing the beads as a fluidized bed in a first zone, and as a fluidized bed is a second zone with a high temperature, low free oxygen-content gas and quenching the reactivated carbon beads with water. The high temperature gas may be steam or a mixture of steam and a combustion gas.
