Abstract

1459140 Injection moulding machine INTERCOLE AUTOMATION Inc 28 June 1974 [2 July 1973] 28831/74 Heading B5A The injection screw G of an axially reciprocating screw injection moulding machine operating on a timed sequence is fed by compounding rotors E, F rotating in opposite senses in a chamber 10, 12 positioned above the injection screw, the rotors E and F having helical blades with convex leading edges. Rubber or plastics material is fed through a hopper 32 (Fig. 1, not shown) to a conveying section of rotors E, F and passes on to a compounding section which intersects the cylinder 40 in which screw G moves. The blades of the rotors E, F are reduced so that they merge with the rotor bodies where they would intersect screw G, and the rotor bodies are enlarged at the ends downstream of the vertical mid-plane of the screw G. The frame 44 containing the rotor E, F is slideably adjustable axially of the rotors on the injection cylinder frame 96 and is held in place by screws 100. The end of screw G is mounted in a piston 132 having a piston head 134 hydraulically displaceable in a cylinder 140 and having a collar 148 engaged by a splined shaft 150 for rotation.
