1458968 Antiskid braking systems GIRLING Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [19 Jan 1973] 2819/73 Heading F2F An antiskid braking system comprising a generator 10 driven by a wheel or axle of the vehicle to produce a voltage output signal representative of the wheel or axle speed, a differentiating circuit 12 connected thereto to produce an output representative of deceleration of the wheel or axle, means responsive to the latter output for reducing or releasing braking pressure if the said output exceeds a predetermined value has also means for continuously monitoring the outputs of both the generator and differentiating circuit and for giving a warning or effecting control if the output level is such as to indicate a likely fault in the system. As shown a second generator 16 driven by a further axle of a rail vehicle bogie has its output applied to a differentiating circuit 18, the generator outputs being fed to frequency to voltage converters 11, 17 whose outputs are fed to the differentiating circuits 12, 18 and to the inputs of a comparator 13, the outputs of the circuits 12, 18 and the comparator 13 being supplied to a logic circuit 14 which operates valves 7, 8 controlling the brakes of the two axles or wheels. The circuit 14 serves to determine faults which occur in the system and under predetermined fault conditions applies a signal along line 21 to converter 11 and comparator 13 or along line 22 to converter 17 and the comparator 13. In the event of a fault the faulty circuit is switched off or a warning given or both. The system is arranged to operate only if the wheel speed is above a predetermined level.
