Abstract

1458681 Separating sheets OPTICAL BUSINESS MACHINES Inc 13 Dec 1973 [7 June 1973] 57803/73 Heading B8R [Also in Division G4] Cards 301 from a stack (Fig. 3) are individually fed by a suction head 304 mounted on an arm 305. Arm 305 is pivotably mounted at 312 to arm 310 and is raised and lowered by a solenoid 320 operative via arms 314, 318. When arm 305 is raised arm 314 operates a microswitch 322. The arm 305 is advanced and retracted by an air motor 308 operating to pivot arm 310 about a fixed pivot 313. Arm 309 carries a pin 323 operating a microswitch 324 when arm 305 is retracted. The leading end of head 305 is inclined and the leading edge of a delivery path 303 is inclined. Air under pressure is supplied to a channel 322 to provide a jet of air which tends to separate cards if the head 304 picks up more than one card and suction is applied to a channel 330 to attract an incorrectly raised card and operate a detector. Head 304 carries a flange 327 arranged to block an air pressurized sensing part 328 if the level of the uppermost card drops below a predetermined height. The blockage is detected (Fig. 7, not shown) and causes air under pressure to be fed to motors which raise the holder 302 a predetermined amount. Cards fed to the delivery path (Fig. 5) are advanced by a step motor which via cylinder 504 drives sets of rollers 501, 504. Each set 501 or 504 contains two rollers spaced transversely of the card path (Fig. 6, not shown). Situated downstream of the rollers 501 are three transversely spaced document skew sensors 521, 522 of which either the inner two or the outer two are operative depending on the width of the document. If the document is advanced more than one step between one sensor sensing the leading edge of the document and the other sensor sensing the leading edge then the document is skewed. The rollers 501, 504 have associated pinch rollers 505, 507 operated by solenoids 506, 508. The cards are further advanced by rollers 509, 510, 511 and delivered to either a normal stacker bin 530 or a reject stacker bin 531.
