Abstract
1458526 Automatic exchange systems GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 25 Oct 1974 [26 July 1973] 35581/73 Heading H4K In a time-space-time switching network each outlet super highway of the incoming time switch 10 and each inlet super highway of the outgoing time switch 14 is duplicated 18, 20 and 22, 24 respectively, and connected to an independently powered and controlled crosspoint matrix of the space switch 12. Overflow from the outgoing to the incoming time switches is provided (Fig. 6) by a link 110 around the space switch. Only one of the duplicate highways is permitted to carry traffic in any one time slot (Fig. 2, not shown). During initial setting up of a connection, the relevant PCM- word speech-memory cell in each incoming time switch is filled with a test word so that successful completion of the connection via the space switch can be immediately ascertained (Fig. 4, not shown). Supermultiplexing of eight, 32 channel highways utilizing 8 bit parallel coding is provided for within the network. If a crosspoint, e.g. 112 (Fig. 6) fails, an alternative connection between inlet 10a and outlet 14b is set up by making use of the overflow connection 110 between outlet 14a and inlet 10b.
