Abstract

1458510 Data processing CANADIAN JURIMETRICS Ltd 29 Nov 1973 [1 Dec 1972] 55368/73 Heading G4A A revision file comprising data words representing human language text is processed in a computer programmed to recognize operators (specifying operations to be performed on human language text in a master file), operands (human language text) and descriptors (specifying a division of the master file text), and to store operands as portioned data sets each comprising the operand text and an ordered set of identifiers. The master file text may be a statute, regulation or the like which is divided into numbered sections, sub-sections, clauses and so on, each line having an ordered set of identifiers e.g. from section number down to line number, and the master file is updated from the processed revision file. The revision file is analysed to determine which part of the master file is to be revised and the operations which have to be performed on the master file text. Statements from the revision file are stored for comparison with a stored table of descriptors to identify the descriptors in the revision file and to effect storage of the immediately following word containing the value of the descriptor. Similar comparisons with stored data to identify text to be revised and operations to be performed are also made. Addition, deletion and replacement of individual words or text passages may be effected by merging text from the master and revision files to form a new master file, and a history trace file is also kept to enable the text existant at any given time to be determined.
