Abstract

145,842. Etheridge, H., and Bar-Lock Typewriter Co. March 27, 1919. Type-levermachines.-A base for a machine having a vertical segment is formed with a flat top B, arranged at the level of the top of the segment C<2>, and a front A which is inclined at the same angle as the keyboard, extends to a point A<1> slightly in front of the space-key, and joins the top at a point A<2> slightly in front of the segment. The front is cut away at A<3> to expose the type-levers, and is formed with a shield C having a curved part C' which conforms with the surface formed by the types when the type-levers are at rest. The flat side and back walls D, E slope outwards and are cast with ribs F. The top is made of large area so that the usual devices, except movable parts such as the platen carriage, can be mounted without projecting beyond the top, the arrangement enabling the machine to be turned on to the back wall or, after pushing inwards the movable parts, on to either side wall for inspection or adjustment of the machine.
