Abstract
1457443 Light refracting plates US INDUSTRIES Inc 23 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972] 54499/73 Heading F4R A lighting panel for use with fluorescent lamps comprises a sheet of plastics material, e.g. polystyrene, the surface of the sheet which is nearer to the lamps, in use, having thereon a refracting pattern of congruent triangularbased pyramids, the base lines of which are coplanar and common to adjacent pyramids, the angle of inclination of the sides of the pyramids being 50 to 60 degrees. As shown, the pattern is formed by three sets of parallel V-shaped grooves A-A, B-B, C-C, in the said surface of the sheet, each groove having an included angle of 66 degrees, and each set of grooves extending at an angle of 60 degrees relative to the other two sets. At apices D1, D2, each side of each pyramid is right-angular. The pattern may be made by extrusion embossing. Preferably, visible lamp image is reduced by an opal acrylic sheet placed over the patterned surface. The opposite surface may have a light-modifying or decorative pattern embossed therein or applied thereto on a further panel.
