Abstract
1457383 Transverse scan tape recorder AMERICAN VIDEONETICS CORP 18 March 1975 [25 March 1974] 11198/75 Heading G5R [Also in Division H1] A commutating transformer for a recordplayback device comprises a first part 10 carrying radial magnetic core segments 21-28 with windings P1-P8 and a second part 11 carrying radial magnetic core segments 51, 52 with windings S1, S2, the part 10 being mounted on the rotating head assembly of a transverse scan recorder with heads H1-H8 scanning a tape T. Connections between the windings P1-P8 and the heads H1-H8 are by leads passing through openings 36 in an aluminium base 16 and by conductive foil (not shown) and connector pins 38 on a printed circuit board 37, the pins 38 being plugged into sockets (not shown) on the head assembly, while connections from the windings S1 S2 to preamplifiers (61, 62, Fig. 4, not shown) are by leads passing through openings 54 in an aluminium base 41 and conductive foil on a printed circuit board 56. The core segments 21-28 are arranged in two groups, an inner group 22, 24, 26, 28 and an outer group 21, 23, 25,27, separatedbyairgaps31,32.Duringthe recording process the signal is fed in parallel to the windings S1, S2, but during playback the outputs of the preamplifiers (61, 62) are successively applied to playback circuitry (64) by a switcher unit (63). In a video system each scan of the head may correspond to 10-20 horizontal lines of the display, switching occurring just before the horizontal synch pulse. The magnetic core segments are of a ferrite such as Ferroxcube 4C4, and each winding may consist of 7 turns of #47 copper wire for a frequency range 0À5- 6À5 MHz.
