Abstract

1457273 Chromatographic column packing device WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd 23 May 1974 [23 May 1973] 24629/73 Heading B1H A chromatographic column packing device comprises a drive plate 1 for receiving column locating means, slidably coupled through a drive shaft 11 to driving means 8 for rotating said drive plate and carrying cam following means 18 cooperating with a climb-face cam 16, and a rotatory member 19 mounted on the drive shaft and having a contact arm 20 positioned for intermittent impact with a cooperating member 21 on a shaft 24 supporting tappers 28 resiliently biassed relative to a column 4. The column is filled from a reservoir 33 via funnel 6, and during filling is simultaneously rotated, vertically reciproated and tapped to obtain even packing.
