Abstract
1456985 Removing hydrocarbons from water AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 5 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 51192/73 Heading C1C Hydrocarbons (e.g. oil) are removed from water by contacting with a purification agent comprising particles of an inorganic solid which have polymer chains fixed to the surface thereof formed by reaction of the particles and polymer by grafting of the polymer to the particles. The purification agent may be dispersed in the water or housed in a cartridge through which the water passes. Purification agents exemplified are formed by the reaction of polyethylene, polyisoprene, polystyrene, polybutadiene, butyl rubber or butadiene-styrene rubber with silica, carbon, TiO 2 , ZnO, Al 2 O 3 , asbestos or bentonite.
