Abstract
145,668. Hoover Suction Sweeper Co., (Assignees of Hoover, H. E.). June 10, 1918, [Convention date]. Carpet - sweepers. - The suction hood of a vacuum-cleaner is provided with openings in the end walls, large enough to permit the passage of the brush and normally closed by plates on which the brush is eccentrically mounted and which are placed and locked in adjustable position. Fig. 1 shows a nozzle casing having an opening in its end wall closed by a flanged cap or plate D' having a lug D<3>, Fig. 2, with a hole adapted to register with one of a series of holes D<5> in the wall, the cap being locked by a stud. The brush-shaft passes through the caps at each end, and is shouldered at the part C<2>, and screwed at the ends to engage nuts D<6> by which the caps are tightened on the casing. The shoulders C<2> prevent the caps jamming against the brush bearings. The ends of the shaft are flattened to engage holes D', Fig. 2, in the caps whereby they may be rotated simultaneously. Flanges D<8> on the caps co-act with flanges C<4> on the brush body to form a thread-guard; air is drawn in through holes D<9> in the cap.
