Abstract
1456606 Agitator mills A SZEGVARI 14 May 1974 [15 May 1973 10 Aug 1973 10 May 1974] 21265/74 Heading B2A An agitator mill has recirculation of the slurry and a ball charge such that less than 15% of the mill vessel volume is free space. Two embodiments, viz Figs. 1 and 2 are as shown in Specification 1374214. A third embodiment employs a mill mounted by trunnions 31 on a frame 32, Fig. 3. A pump 41 and inlet tank 49 feed an off centre inlet 44 of the mill. The off centre arrangement prevents bottom sediment formation. A fourth embodiment employs recirculation around a jacket 66 surrounding the mill vessel 63 Fig. 4 using an independantly driven pump 79, 80. The mill is charged via an inlet valve 85 and discharged via a valve 86. In Fig. 5 the retaining tank 100 through which material is recirculated is above the agitator chamber 91 and integral therewith. Examples of comminution of barium ferrite primer, and sugar are described. Typical grinding elements are steel balls >¢" diameter, or glass stone ceramic, tungsten carbide, titanium dioxide, sillimanite balls, beads or pebbles, typically #" -to "5/16". Typical agitator speeds are 100....400 rpm. The retaining tank contents may be stirred.
