Abstract

1456228 Pin and socket joints with sealing means AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 29 Nov 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 57022/73 Heading E2F A pin and socket joint in which a head portion 11 is received for rotational and limited angular movement within a socket 12 includes sealing means about a mouth of the housing through which a pin portion 16 projects comprising a first sealing ring 17 secured about the pin in a fluid tight manner and having an outer surface which is inwardly tapered towards the mouth; the inner surface of a cover 18 being engaged by this surface and having a part spherical concave inner face which can slide on a corresponding convex face about the housing mouth. As shown the joint is a ball and socket joint and the convex face is the outer surface of a second sealing ring 19 mounted on the housing. A member 16 to which the joint is connected in use engages the ring 17 which resiliently engages the cover 18. The ring 17 is preferably rubber and the cover 18 and the ring 19 preferably low-friction plastics.
