Abstract
1455626 A die for casting wheels REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 25 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 8498/74 Heading B3F In an apparatus for making wheels by low pressure die casting and comprising a multi-part die having at least two die cavities, the molten metal is fed to the die cavities at the joint plane of the die and enters the cavities at a point on the rim of the wheel. In the embodiment shown the die comprises a fixed lower part 6, a movable upper part 7 detachably mounted on an upper frame member 2, and a part 8 which is arranged around the parts 6 and 7 and is formed in two sections. Molten metal passes into each cavity 9 from a common passage 3 along a duct 5 and air is vented from the cavity through orifices provided in arcuate members 15 and through clearances around ejector rods 12a passing through the upper die part 7. The lower die part 6 is provided with ejector rods 11a and 11b and has a central bore 14 which receives a shaft 13 secured to the upper die part 7. Each section of the die part 8 is connected to the upper frame 2 by a toggle system comprising a bar 17 hinged at one end to the part 8 and hinged at its other end to a triangular link 20 which is mounted to pivot on one end of a cranked lever 22 the centre of which is in turn hinged at 23 to the upper frame member 2 and the other end of which bears on the frame member 2 via resilient members 25. The triangular link 20 is hinged to the piston rod 28 of a ram 29 which is mounted to tilt on the frame 2, the arrangement being such that the two sections of the die part 8 may be slid sideways to permit removal of the wheel 30 from the die cavity. To prevent the die parts 8 from opening under the pressure from the metal injected, a shoe 31 mounted on a lever 32 pivotally secured to the upper frame member 2 is urged against the die part 8 by a ram 38.
