Abstract

1455174 Benzo-1,3-dioxanes BASF AG 26 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 8617/74 Heading C2C Novel benzo-1,3-dioxanes having the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, cyano or a radical of the formula -COR<SP>4</SP> wherein R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen, (C 1 -C 4 ) alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, or an unsubstituted or mono- or disubstituted amino, and R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are (C 1 -C 4 )- alkyl or together form a methylene chain of from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, are prepared by reacting an o-hydroxymethylphenol substituted by R<SP>1</SP> in the para position to the phenolic hydroxy group with a ketone of the formula in an aprotic solvent or solvent mixture and in the presence of a water-binding agent. The novel compounds possess fungicidal properties.
