Abstract

1455131 Mixing apparatus RUBBER & PLASTIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN 20 March 1974 [23 March 1973] 14125/73 Heading B1C A mixing apparatus comprises a mixing chamber 12 adapted to receive a first material, a rotary stirring device 48 adapted to be reciprocated axially within the chamber and means for introducing a second material into 'the chamber at a location which is adjacent to and is arranged to move with the stirrer. The second material is introduced via line 56, rotary coupling 54, hollow shaft 50 and apertures 58 therein which cooperate with a spring-loaded valve member 60. The apparatus may be used for introducing a mixing and curing agent into a mixture of liquid rubber and carbon black the latter being prepared in a mixer 10 and pumped to an accumulator 18 from which successive batches are admitted via line 20 and valve 22 to chamber 12. Chamber 12 is sealed at one end by a piston 26 which can be moved axially to discharge the mixture by a pair of fluid pressure rams 28. For Figure see next column
