Abstract
1454991 Utilizing natural energy G M E WILLIAMS 25 Oct 1973 [26 July 1972] 35020/72 Heading F4U [Also in Division H1] In a method of installing plant for generating electrical power, in which the hot junction of a thermoelectric device is located in the relatively hot matter at the bottom of a bore in the crust of the earth and the cold junction is located in the region of the surface of the earth, the hot junction is inserted into the bore in the earth's crust by the apparatus by which the bore is drilled. The hot junction, which may comprise an additive series of antimony-bismuth junctions, is disposed in an armoured casing, and the cables leading from the hot junction to the cold junction at the surface are preferably also armoured. A solid state DC/AC converter may be connected across the junctions and its AC output voltage may be fed to the primary winding of a transformer.
