Abstract

1454906 Fluoropolymers containing azido groups IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 Aug 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 42428/73 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] A copolymer comprises at least two vinyl monomers, at least one of which contains a fluorocarbon chain and at least one of which monomers contains an azido group. The fluorocarbon chain containing monomer is preferably of the formula wherein Rf is a fluorocarbon chain, B is a linking group and R is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group of from one to four carbon atoms, preferably the fluorocarbon chain Rf being linear, having a terminal CF 3 group and having from 6 to 13 carbon atoms. The azido group containing monomer may contain an azidoformate or sulphonylazido group and preferably has the formula wherein X is an azido or sulphonylazido group, D is a linking radical and R is a hydrogen or a lower alkyl group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The copolymers may additionally comprise a third monomer, e.g. a vinyl monomer containing an oxyethylene group, preferably or wherein R is hydrogen or methyl and m has an average value of 5-120, preferably 5-35.
