1454642 Dynamoelectric machines SIEMENS AG 20 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 7806/74 Heading H2A A field producing structure for a rotary electrical machine comprises a plurality of pole pieces 2, 3, 4, a yoke 8, a plurality of permanent magnets 5, 6, 7 between the pole pieces and the yoke, and relatively high reluctance means both in the pole pieces and in the yoke for increasing the reluctance to transverse magnetic flux components #q produced when the machine is operating. In the stator structure shown, the reluctance increasing means is in the form of non magnetic strips 9, e.g. of a light metal or of plastics extending through the pole pieces, the magnets and the yoke. In the structure of Fig. 3 (not shown), recesses (10, 11) are provided in the yoke and pole pieces whereby to leave regions (12) of restricted cross-sectional area for the transverse flux components to pass through, such regions becoming saturated at low density levels of these transverse components and therefore offering high reluctance thereto.
