Abstract

1454533 Slip casting IDEAL-STANDARD Ltd 20 March 1974 [23 March 1973] 14263/73 Heading B5A Slip casting moulds 1-10 are aligned and each is fed via a tundish 11 and an upper aperture leading into the mould cavity; a drain aperture in each mould connects with a common pipe 12 via a flexible tube 20 provided with a spring clamp to prevent flow. Each tundish serves as a reservoir during casting, and after a predetermined casting period the clamps and a valve 13 are opened to allow slip to pass to a return pipe 14. The pipe 12 may be used as a slip supply pipe. In a modification the outlet end of the pipe 12 has a standpipe directing the slip into a sump from which it is pumped away. In a further embodiment a line of moulds are releasably clamped together and each mould comprises male and female parts; adjacent tundishes are interconnected by weirs and the line of moulds is filled by supplying that tundish at the end of the line whereby the moulds are filled in turn.
